2023 CEGA Mixed Golf 31st Anniversary Tournament

After a three year absence, the 31st Annual CEGA Mixed Golf tournament was held 23 August at Lynx Ridge Golf Course.  This years event switched to a midweek afternoon timing, with the best ball scramble, and benefitted from the blue skies, and without the usual smoke obscured skies and torrential rain that usually plagues our tournament.  We enjoyed sunshine and short sleeve weather with some gusty winds to make the tournament a complete hit with all the attendees.  We missed a few of our regular attendees, with 80 golfers attending this year, but with all the changes from COVID and industry, we were pleased to host an excellent tournament and hope to see everyone in 2024.

The team low net trophy and tournament winner was the team of David Reidford, Taylor McElhinney, Terry Phillips and Rachel Lea.  The low gross score trophy was taken by the team of Darren Hiscott, Ryan Buis, Ryan McPherson & Tony Evens, and the Spirit Award “fossil coprolite” trophy went to the most honest team of Jon Horner, Marius Simon, Peter Nyman and Jennifer Connolly.

We recognize how our great sponsors came through for this year, and we appreciate each and every one of them.  The Platinum sponsorship by geoLOGIC Systems, Gold sponsorship by Chinook Consulting Services, Silver sponsorships by PetroCraft/RigSat; SLB and in-kind sponsorship by Little Rock Printing.  Hospitality tents were hosted by Chinook Consulting Services on hole #14, and the skill/challenge contests provided by the ProGEO $10,000 hole in one and beat the hack for Flames game tickets(James Ablett) on hole #5.  Prize holes were additionally sponsored by Belloy Petroleum Consulting, Birchcliff Energy, Eavor, RPS Group and ProGeo Consultants.  Prize donation by Belloy Petroleum Consultants (Jeff Kriz) cooler filled with steaks.

During the delicious steak banquet dinner teams relived the good times and the missed shots that could have put them in contention. In the end, the members, guests, sponsor players and representatives enjoyed a great day catching up with colleagues, making new friends, and succeeded in delivering $1800 to support the CEGA outreach activities for geoscience.

I would like to thank the many sponsors, golfers, and the greens-keeping, pro shop and catering team at Lynx Ridge Golf course and especially the fine organizing committee of co-chair Brenda Pearson (registration) & Rachel Lea, Norm Hopkins (trophies), Darren Hiscott  (sponsorship), Rachel Lea (sponsorship), and Nash Hayward (course prizes)  and our CSPG office support from Kristy Casebeer.  Brenda will be stepping down as Mixed Golf co-chair and Rachel Lea has agreed to step forward to the co-chair role. A big thank you to Tracey Jungwirth who was unable to golf due to injury and instead came out to take pictures of all the teams.  Hopefully, by the time this is published, all the pictures taken by various groups will be on the new CEGA website.

Attending members and sponsors overwhelmingly expressed their gratitude to be back in person, and we look forward to your attendance at next year’s tournament.
